| Postal Course: Advanced Jolly Phonics |
| (Course Ref: AJP) |
| Summary |
|
What does the course cover?
Each pack covers a particular sound, showing how it can be made by using different combinations of letters. For example, the sound 'ie' (as in pie; pronounced 'eye') may also be written as 'igh' (as in 'sight'); 'y' (as in 'cry') or i_e (as in 'bike' - magic e option). The 12 packs cover a total of 25 graphemes (ways of writing sounds).
The child learns to recognise the sounds and to use them in context when they are reading and spelling.
What type of activities are provided?
A typical pack will contain:
- a craft activity, which helps to reinforce the sound being taught
- a page to be completed and compiled into a sounds booklet - this gives reading practice
- a card 'cut-out', building up a collection of graphemes
- 'Blending Machine' - fun activity giving further reading practice specific to the week's sound
- a work-sheet, e.g. crossword, word-search. These generally focus on reading and/or spelling; sometimes on revision of previous sounds taught
- a game or suggestion for a game which will further enhance the child's learning and enjoyment
Is my child ready for this course?
If the following 3 statements are all applicable to your child, then this course would be an appropriate one:
- He/She is confident at recognising all the letters of the alphabet, and remembering the letter sounds. (If not, try Pre-School Postal Phonics Course)
- He/She is able to work out simple 3-letter words by blending sounds together, e.g. h - a - t, making 'hat'. (If not, try Blending Skills Course)
- He/She has a reasonable sight-word vocabulary, i.e. confident at recognising a range of whole words, such as was, the, went, this, they, come, away. These are from the list of Reception words. They are not tackled phonetically, but by memorising the word 'shape'. (If not, try High Frequency Word Courses)
How much does the course cost?
The entire 12 week course is £115 (including postage and packaging).
However, if you prefer not to commit to the whole course, we do offer a 3 week trial period for £36. The fee for the remaining 9 weeks is £84, making the course total £120.
